A bit of both.

This was an undermanned squad to begin with. Not sure I would have had a ton of faith in them to turn it around anyway.

They have to roll with this line up next year minus Lucic and only $1.3mil in cap space so I would gamble with a new coach

I never understand why some franchises seem to have this PR push that their team is great and every loss is bad luck.

The Flames just have not had a strong team, on paper imo, in a long time.

Last year, 2/3rds of their team Johnny/Tkachuk were playing out of their minds for contract years with the intention of leaving to greener pastures. If they weren't playing insanely above their norms Calgary would have been a fringe playoff/bubble team... Like they have been for awhile.

Which is what they are and without those two firing at or above their max potential the result is exactly what is happening and no one should be surprised. Slightly below average team in a weak division/conference.

Coaching has been a bigger add to this team than a subtract but we all know he has an expiry date.

Firing the coach may help but I just don't think the Flames have the team some people push that they do.

"Nothing" wrong with the team or the coach really. Just expectations are way higher than they should be. Being in the playoff race this year is actually a win in my mind with that roster.

It is well known that most if not all NHL coaches are hired with an expiry date. That date is just shorter for coaches like Sutter and Torts because of their intense coaching style and personality. So no surprise here

Sutter will be GM next season, hiring his own head coach.

Sutter has a brand new 2 year contract starting in 23/24, I cant see them paying him to go away.

A bit of both honestly(imo). I do not think the Flames are as good of a team as most claim them to be, You can only play the bad luck line for so long(and that isn't an 82 game schedule). But Sutter has lost this team, And they might respond to a different coach in the fall of 2023.

They need Drew Doughy to come up to Calgary and lock Sutter out of the Flames change room. Be great.

I need tonight's picks, Ek.

I'm already down $400,000 to my bookie, and he says he's going to break my legs unless I can come up with the money.

Wait? What did the coach hear about Marksrom?

Strange that you didn't mention Mangiapane. Last year you labelled him as a superstar in the making. Look at his 35 goals. They can lose Gaudreau and he can slide up to the 1st line. Now he has 13 goals.

Some of us tried to explain that Mangiapane scored a bunch of goals because Gaudreau and Tkachuk drew all of the tough opponent matchups. Mangiapane would struggle if he's elevated into a top role facing the toughest defensive matchups.

And that's exactly what happened. He signed his big new contract. Got elevated. And failed. 35 goals to 13. It helps to watch the games instead of just the highlights.

It's not the coach or the players. It's the fan base. No one performs with fans like 1230 supporting them.

Maybe if Sutter is the GM - they can talk Mike Keenan back to retro the 80s right this time. Lol.

Not sure anybody in the Calgary system sees the meteorite barreling their way just like the dinosaurs did. Very sad.
